Written in 2002, at the height of public debate over cloning, A Number follows a father who has secretly cloned his son and is confronted by the unforeseen consequences of his hubris.. More than two decades later, the play finds new resonance in a cultural moment shaped by artificial intelligence, when identity is no longer simply replicated, but generated, predicted, and controlled. Santos and Guingona last shared the stage in the critically acclaimed, sold-out 2023 production of ‘Red’ directed by Guingona. This time it is Santos in the director’s chair, taking on the dual role as he portrays Bernard 1, Bernard 2, and Michael Black, opposite Guingona’s Salter. The collaboration with visual artist Miguel Uy and sound artist Frankie Lalunio aka Mudskipper, weaves theater with new media in an exciting exploration of the tension between technology and society.
